Andy Doré - Active Underwriter
Andy has 25 years experience as a London market insurance practitioner, predominantly in a Lloyd’s underwriting capacity. Andy began his career in 1986 in the claims department at specialist professional liabilities broker, Nelson Hurst & Marsh, and after 18 months progressed to placing broking with Bowring Ltd. In 1989, he was approached by Denham Syndicate 990 to become assistant PI underwriter. After 5 years, he joined R.E. Brown & Others, (Syndicate 702) as Box PI Underwriter responsible for a £25m account and in 1997 he established the London Service Company operation, generating approximately £15m new business in 18 months. In addition to his Service Company Manager role he was promoted to PI Line Underwriter of Syndicate 702, with responsibility for a combined account of approximately £50m NWPI.

Shortly after the acquisition of 702 by Markel, Andy left to establish a new PI account in London on behalf of CNA Europe generating an account of £10m NWPI in 15 months. In early 2002 Andy was approached by two former colleagues to help establish PRI, a specialist liability UK insurance company, capitalised through £150m AIM-Listed capital raising initiative. After 9 months trading and achieving £25m NWPI, the company was acquired by Brit Insurance Holdings. In November 2003, Andy achieved approval from the Lloyd’s Franchise Board to establish Syndicate 2526, thereby becoming one of the youngest Active Underwriters at Lloyd’s.

The Syndicate has current third party capacity of £50m and specialises in professional liability risks. In December 2010, Andy led the novation of the Syndicate to Whittington Capital Management, a specialist turnkey managing agency, establishing a holding company that employs all Syndicate staff and contracts with WCM for the provision of Lloyd’s managing agency services.
